DHI HAIR TRANSPLANT, DHI-CHOI, ONE OF THE NEW TECHNOLOGIES
DHI stands for “Direct Hair Implantation.” In this method, grafts are collected with the medical pencil Choi, which can only be used by specialists. The Choi pen Implanter has a very thin cylindrical sharp point.
Using the Choi pen, the obtained hair is also placed directly on the skin without making an incision or opening a channel. While FUE-Classic and FUE-Sapphire techniques have 3 phases, the DHI technique has 2 phases. The step of opening channels is skipped, and the implantation is done directly.
The goal of the treatment is to improve the quality of hair transplantation, provide a dense and tight appearance, and ensure that the patient can quickly return to their daily life without losing the existing hair image for a long time. We recommend this technique only to patients without an advanced stage of hair loss.
The steps of a DHI-Choi hair transplant
Hair follicles collected during a hair transplantation, performed with a Choi Implanter pen, are individually placed into the pen. This placement must be done very carefully and precisely. After the assistants, who are executing the placement process, have positioned each hair follicle, they hand over these grafts to the specialized doctor for transplantation. At this point, the doctor transplants the hair follicles at an angle of 40-45 degrees, which is the most suitable angle.
Aside from this angle, another crucial point is that it is implanted in the correct direction and in alignment with the direction of the existing hair of the person undergoing the transplantation.
During the procedure, 2 to 6 Choi pens and an average of 15-16 Choi tips are used. The tips of these pens may vary in size. The determining factor for this is the hair follicles and the thickness structure of the individual.
The pros and cons of DHI hair transplant
The DHI-Choi hair transplant method has various advantages and disadvantages compared to the FUE-Sapphire method.
Advantages of the DHI-Choi technique:
- Faster recovery is observed after the operation, allowing the patient to easily return to their daily routine in a short time.
- It minimizes the time hair follicles spend outside the tissue, ensuring a healthier transplantation.
- The survival rate of hair follicles is slightly higher. Thanks to the Choi pen, the waiting time for follicles is shortened, minimizing follicle loss.
- As the incision area is smaller, the risk of bleeding is minimized.
- With this method, an unshaved hair transplant can be performed more easily, and the patient can return to their daily life without losing their existing hair appearance.
Disadvantages compared to the FUE method:
- Both the doctor and the assistant team need to be in good condition to apply and specialize in this technique.
- It is a more expensive method compared to other hair transplant methods.
- Transplantation in a hairy area means that the transplantation area is very narrow, and if the performing physician lacks enough experience, the Choi pen may damage other hair follicles while working in this narrow area.
- It is not recommended for people with advanced stages of hair loss.
